The rules, plainly.

These Terms ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you and Petlys ("we," "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Petlys.

• You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country) to create an account.
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity under your account.
• Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

Anything you upload — photos, videos, memories, records — is yours. You keep all ownership. You grant us only the narrow license we need to store and display it back to you (and to anyone you explicitly share it with) so the service works. That license ends when you delete the content or your account.

You are responsible for what you upload. Don't upload content that infringes someone else's rights or violates the law.

Each pet you add includes 1 GB of storage — enough for roughly 200 photos plus dozens of short video clips. You can see a live meter of your usage on the memories page for each pet.

Media is processed on upload. To keep your library quick to browse and your storage lasting, we automatically resize photos (longest edge scaled to 2048 pixels, re-encoded as JPEG at 85% quality) and we cap individual video clips at 25 MB (roughly 30–45 seconds of good phone video). Longer clips need to be trimmed in your phone's editor before upload. The resized/compressed version is what we store — the original file you selected is not kept.

Memory Boost. If you need more room, a paid Memory Boost is available that adds extra storage to a pet. Boost pricing is shown at checkout and billed in addition to your membership. You can cancel a Boost at any time; if you cancel, you'll be asked to bring the pet's usage back under the 1 GB included limit before the next billing period.

You can delete, but you cannot download. Petlys is a keepsake, not a file backup or export service. Here is exactly how it works so there are no surprises:

• Delete anytime. You can remove any photo, video, or memory from a pet's page whenever you want, and you can delete a pet or your whole account at any time. Deleted content is gone.
• No downloads, ever. Once a file is uploaded, it lives inside Petlys — we do not provide a way to download the original (or the resized version) back out to your device.
• Share links are view-only. Anyone you share a pet's page with can view the memories in the browser. They cannot save, export, or download the files either.
• Keep your own copies. Your phone's camera roll is the simplest way to keep independent copies of anything important to you. Please do not upload something to Petlys as your only copy.

In short: upload, keep, share, or delete — but not download.

Please don't:

• Use Petlys to store or share illegal content.
• Try to break, probe, or overload the service (unless you're reporting a vulnerability responsibly — see our Trust page).
• Attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
• Scrape the service, resell it, or wrap it as your own product without permission.
• Impersonate someone else or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.
• Bypass, disable, or automate around our bot-protection, rate-limiting, or sign-up verification (including Cloudflare Turnstile), or create accounts using disposable / temporary email inboxes.

Petlys may offer both free and paid plans. If you subscribe to a paid plan, pricing and billing terms will be shown at checkout and become part of these Terms. You may cancel at any time; unless otherwise stated, cancellation stops future charges but doesn't refund the current billing period.

One free trial per person. Each customer is entitled to one 14-day free trial. Trial eligibility is checked against the payment method on file — signing up with a new email address does not qualify a customer for an additional trial. If we detect that a card or payment method has already been used for a prior trial, the new subscription will begin billing immediately with no trial.

Adding a pet. You can add a pet at any time. If you are on a paid plan, you will be charged the prorated difference immediately and the new pet is available in Petlys right away. If you are on your free trial, additional pets added during the trial are included at no extra cost, and the trial still ends on your original trial end date — adding pets does not extend or reset the trial. When the trial ends, you will be billed for all pets on your account at that time.

Removing a pet. You can remove a pet at any time. We do not issue refunds or account credits for removed pets. You will keep the current rate through the end of the current billing period, and the lower rate takes effect at your next renewal. The removed pet's records and share page remain accessible through your paid-through date and are then permanently deleted. If the pet you remove is the only pet on your account, your subscription will be scheduled to cancel at the end of the current billing period, with no refund for that period.

When a friend joins Petlys through your personal link and stays on a paid plan for their first two months, we will apply the equivalent of one month's membership as a credit to your Stripe customer balance. That credit is automatically absorbed by your next invoice.

Rules of the program, in plain language:

• One credit at a time. You can only hold one banked free month on your account. Additional qualifying referrals during that time are recognized as a badge and a thank-you, but do not stack additional free months.
• Trials don't count. A referral only qualifies after the invited person has paid their first invoice at full price.
• Sixty-day qualification window. If the invited person cancels, refunds, or charges back within sixty days of their first payment, the pending credit is reversed before it is applied.
• Anti-abuse review. Sign-ups that appear to share a payment method, billing address, IP address, or household with the referrer may be held for manual review. We reserve the right to withhold or revoke credits obtained through self-referral, coordinated sign-up-and-cancel patterns, or other conduct designed to game the program.
• No cash value. Referral credits are not redeemable for cash, transferable, or refundable. They can only be applied against a future Petlys invoice on the same account.
• Coupon-discounted sign-ups don't qualify. If the invited person used a coupon at checkout, their subscription does not count toward your referral.
• We may change or end the program. With thirty days' notice, we may modify the qualification rules, the credit amount, or discontinue the program. Credits already banked will still be honored.

Recognition badges (Companion, Steward, Keeper, Guardian) are shown on your account and, if you opt in, on the public Household wall. A small "+" may appear after your badge when you have also added extra rescue shares beyond your membership. Badges display tier only — never counts, never leaderboards. Petlys is not a competition.

Each pet has a bookshelf — a place to keep up to ten curated collections of that pet's story. A collection is your own arrangement of the memories, moments, and events already on the pet's page — a year in review, a version for a grandparent, a favorite chapter. Nothing new is uploaded when you make a collection; it's a curated view of what's already there.

Live share links. When you share a pet's page or a collection with someone, they see the current state in their browser under the terms you set. They can view but not save, export, or download. You can revoke any live share link from your account, and edits you make afterward are reflected the next time the recipient loads the page.

Sealed shares. You can also seal a collection into a fixed keepsake link. Sealing freezes that collection — every photo, event, and word — into an immutable copy stored in a private, tokenized share vault, so the version the recipient sees stays exactly as it arrived even after you edit the underlying story. Sealed shares are still view-only (no download or export), and you can close a sealed link at any time from your bookshelf — closing replaces the page with a closed-door notice for anyone who still holds the URL. Closing a sealed share does not delete the collection itself from your shelf.

Screenshots. Because the reader is a webpage, anyone you share with can take a screenshot on their device, just like any other webpage or email. We don't add download buttons, print buttons, or "save as PDF" tools anywhere in Petlys, and we ask that you share only with people you trust — but we cannot technically prevent someone from capturing what's on their own screen.

Storage. Curating a collection uses no extra storage on your account. Sealing a collection copies the media into our sealed-share vault on our side; that cost is on us and does not count against your pet's 1 GB.

You are responsible for who you share links with, live or sealed.

Petlys gift memberships are prepaid, one‑time purchases that grant a fixed amount of paid access to the recipient. When you buy a gift, we issue a unique redemption code and email it to the recipient at the address you provide, and send a receipt (with a copy of the code) to you. The recipient claims the gift by creating or signing in to a Petlys account and entering the code.

• One‑time charge. Gifts do not auto‑renew and do not create a subscription on the buyer's card.
• Pricing. Gifts are priced at the same $3 per pet per month as a regular membership, multiplied by the pet count (1–4) and duration (6 or 12 months) selected at checkout.
• No free trial on gifted time. The gifted period is itself paid access; no additional 14‑day free trial is applied when a gift is redeemed.
• No card required to redeem. Redeeming a gift does not require the recipient to enter a payment method.
• Non‑refundable once issued. Because the redemption code is delivered within seconds of your payment clearing, gift purchases are non‑refundable once the code has been issued. If the recipient email you provided bounces and the code has not been redeemed, we will refund on request within 14 days of purchase.
• Codes expire after 12 months. Unredeemed gift codes expire twelve months after the purchase date. Expired codes cannot be reactivated or refunded.
• Single use. Each gift code may be redeemed one time by one Petlys account. Codes are non‑transferable once redeemed.
• One active gift per account. An account cannot redeem a new gift while an existing gift period is still active. After the active gifted time ends, another gift may be redeemed.
• Pet count is a cap, not a floor. The recipient may add pets up to the gifted cap during the gift period at no additional charge. Adding pets beyond the cap requires starting a regular paid subscription; any remaining gifted time is credited toward the paid‑through date so the recipient is not double‑charged.
• Post‑gift access. When gifted time ends, the account becomes read‑only until the recipient starts a paid subscription. Memories are not deleted at gift expiry. Because the gift itself was paid access, no 14‑day free trial is offered after a gift ends.
• Rescue food fund. The $0.50‑per‑pet‑per‑month rescue food contribution is generated by recurring memberships. Gift purchases are not counted toward the monthly rescue food fund. When the recipient converts to a paid recurring membership after the gift ends, their pets generate the standard monthly contribution from that point forward.
• Personalization. Any pet names or personal message provided at checkout are included in the recipient email. You are responsible for the content you provide; Petlys may withhold delivery of any message that violates our acceptable‑use policies.

We may improve, change, or occasionally take features down for maintenance. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. If we discontinue a significant feature we'll give you reasonable notice before the change takes effect.

If you submit a photo to our "Household Names" wall, you confirm you own the photo (or have permission to submit it) and that your companion is the subject. You grant Petlys a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to display that photo, your pet's first name, species, and optional caption on the Petlys website for as long as your submission remains active. Every submission is reviewed by an automated safety check before appearing, and any user can report a featured photo, which automatically hides it pending review. You can withdraw a submission at any time from your account; withdrawal removes the photo from public display and deletes the original file. We may decline or remove any submission at our discretion.

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, or in response to legal process. On termination, your right to use the service ends; the sections that should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, dispute resolution) will survive.

Petlys is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Petlys is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice; always consult a licensed veterinarian for medical decisions about your pet.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Petlys and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, or data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Petlys is organized, without regard to conflict of laws rules. Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable consumer rights you have in your country of residence.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes we will post the updated Terms here, update the "Last updated" date, and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept them.
